My wife kept telling me that there is no such recession, even though Singapore government had mentioned that this year GDP growth is predicted to be around five percent.
Well, what she meat is actually there is still a big crowd when there is sale at major/particular department stores. ’Come and prove yourself’, as she told me in the other days. To prove it myself, last weekend, I accompanied my wife to shop at of one of the major department stores in Singapore where there is a special discount for members on Saturday from 6PM to 11PM.
We arrived at around 5:30PM. There were already lots of people especially at the cosmetic area where most of ladies are trying to buy their toiletries items. Being a good husband, I started to queue to the cashier at around 5:45PM while my wife is still looking for her items. By this time, the cashier queue had built up, I counted at least there were at least 10 people before me.
While waiting on the queue, I noticed a lady in front of me was reading ‘Spiritual Exercise’ article. I assume, she must be reading it to prepare for the coming Easter. However, should it be read and reflect it at the quiet place? Then I saw a mother asking her daughter to clean her hands after trying the cosmetics, is it too young for her age to start using cosmetic? There were people who still cannot decide which brand to buy, some people are still asking what’s the purpose of this product, that product, etc. Others were asking the staff lady to quickly pick up her items including free gifts. It was a bit chaotic, as the queue was getting longer towards 6PM and the surrounding air started getting warm. By the time, I reached the cashier, it was already 6:30PM. As I left the store around 7:10PM, the queue was still long, I wonder what happens when the store closes at 11PM?
